Saturday Night House Party

|

It’s Saturday night and time for another edition of the Saturday Night House Party!

My music tastes are all over the place, but clearly outside of the mass consumption music that is played on any local radio.  When Mark’s away, I like to sneak into this post some things that I’m betting most of you have never heard before.

First up is a violinist named Lindsey Stirling that a friend introduced me to a few months ago.  She has created a great “dub step” sound combining her violin playing and electronica music.  This one is a little different from her others, but as I’m also a fan of Phantom of the Opera, I couldn’t not choose this one as an introduction.

Next up is some more techno-ish music.  I found this particular song because it features one of my favorite metal vocalists, Christian Alvestam.  Don’t worry, no “growls and screams” here.  :)

Finally, in honor of Gun Rights Appreciation Day, I tried to find a song that reminds us of how important our 2nd amendment freedoms are.  It’s not about hunting, it’s about the ability to repel tyranny even from within our own country.  This is Iced Earth’s “Declaration Day”.  Live Free or Die.  (Lyrics below the video)

A desperate situation
Forced to retaliation
The task ahead, a burden
Men will suffer, that’s for certain
We’ll charge into the fire
The cause, we must inspire
We raise our fist to tyranny
A high price, Freedom is not free

The odds are stacked against us
But with our resolve relentless
And arrogance their Weakness
Our cause is just, we won’t be beaten
Upon this declaration
Will come a brand new nation
Where men are seen as equal
Governed by and for the people

Chorus
So we make our stand and pray
On this declaration day
For independence I will fight
With liberty I will defy

So we make our stand and pray
On this declaration day
Give me liberty or give me death
I’ll fight ’till my last breath

With virtue as our beacon
Our cause is charged as treason
Battle worn and starving
Through the hell of war we’ll keep marching
The birth of our new nation
An act of desperation
We’ll force king George down to his knees
Capitulation
