Time to Take the AR-15 Away from the Military and Law Enforcement
From the Daily Mail:
“It emerged today that Alexis used three weapons in yesterday’s shooting: a shotgun he is believed to have brought to Navy Yard with him, and two more weapons that officers believe he picked up during the course of the massacre: an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle and a handgun.
Last night Staff Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford told CNN’s Piers Morgan that ‘almost every mass shooting involves an AR-15 assault rifle’.
He added: It’s the preferred mass shooter’s weapon of choice, but I don’t see a logical reason why any civilian needs to have one of these killing machines.’”
Let’s see if we can come up with a logical path to why a civilian would need an AR-15 even if the AR-15 was made illegal.
1) Law enforcement officer carries AR-15.
2) Bad guy with legally purchased shotgun kills officer.
3) Bad guy picks up AR-15.
4) Bad guy shoots civilians with AR-15.
The right to defend oneself, by definition, means having the ability to do so on a level playing field with person who is attacking you. If the person attacking you has an AR-15 - REGARDLESS of who they are, who they work for, or where/how they got it - and all you have is a pocket knife you cannot defend yourself as per your natural born right to do so. Thus, outlawing the AR-15 for some but not others, is an outright infringement on your right to self-defense.
So, if we’re going to ban the AR-15 from civilian ownership, then we MUST them away from the military and law enforcement AS WELL - since we now HAVE PROOF that the average citizen cannot defend himself against a bad guy who is willing to commit murder and steal his AR-15 from a military serviceperson or law enforcement officer.
And, oh, God help us if we allow them to be banned and the government itself decided to use these “killing machines” on us.
