The Many Scary Faces of Elaine Marshall

|

Just in time for Halloween . . .

She calls herself independent and says she is a “scrapper”, but what I noticed while watching the recent debates between Democratic NC Secretary of State Elaine Marshall and Republican US Senator Richard Burr is that Marshall has an almost unnatural mix of common sense conservatism and far left ideology.

It was like watching multiple personalities vying for dominance from the same face.  As with a deformed vegetable or misshapen animal, something was not quite right.

“Washington is broken, the Senate in particular is paralyzed,” says Marshall. “American families are hurting and people just don’t believe their voice is being heard in Washington.” Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t that sound like something a tea party activist would say?

On the other hand, she wants to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” believes homosexuality is predestined at birth (which makes it even more amazing that there are none in Iran) and therefore requires more stringent penalties for discrimination, and wants to bring US Troops home from Afghanistan immediately, all part of a very liberal agenda.

While these two voices battle back and forth, showing a truly dizzying intellect, she further flip flops between aw-shucks down home charm and rabid foaming-at-the-mouth attacks on Richard Burr.

I guess all those years as a trailblazer in state politics has taken its toll.

All in all, Marshall says even though she is a Democrat, in a year when Democrats are not being embraced by the public, she has the spirit that North Carolinians are looking for.

And which spirit, I have to ask, is that?  The one that sends cold chills up your spine?  Because frankly, Elaine Marshall scares the heck out of me.
