Montessori/Traditional Magnets Get Reprieves

Two popular Montessori magnet schools have gotten a reprieve from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ proposed massive upheaval for continuous improvement: Chantilly and Highland Mill were targeted to be mothballed and consolidated at Oakhurst Elementary, under recommendations rolled out last week. That plan got nixed today at a school board workshop, TCO’s Ann Doss Helms is reporting. Board […]

City Cops Deal In Sex Assault Case – UPDATE: Maybe

UPDATE (10/04): After meeting behind closed doors Monday night, City Attorney Mac McCarley emerged to announce that no settlement has been approved in the Jackson case. But that doesn’t mean the city isn’t getting ready to shell out some big bucks. While no official settlement was announced, the uptown paper of record is reporting that […]

The Spicoli Budget Bill

In California, that is, where Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is claiming financial woes as the driving force behind his decision this week to sign a bill that would downgrade possession of an ounce or less of marijuana from a misdemeanor to an infraction that would land a $100 fine. The move comes as Proposition 19, to […]

Emancipator-In-Chief

The Chosen One hits new ridiculously high rhetorical lows, again pushing the ‘I feel your angst’ mantra, this time at an elite, $30,400-a-pop Democrat fundraiser. President Obama reminded the gathering of fellow travelers that two years ago he had presaged that “change was going to take time” and implored patience, according to the wonderful Twitter […]

Declaring Victory While Fleeing A Sinking Ship

Democrats duck out of D.C. a week early, dodge tax cuts, flounder on appropriations bills, balloon deficit, hang budget in limbo, pass a continuing resolution to keep government running, leave economy in ruins – and call it a win. I can see November from my house.

Two All Beef Patties

Special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun – but no health insurance. How’s that Obamacare working out? Not so good at McDonald’s Corp., where executives have signaled that requirements of the new law would force the fast-food titan to drop insurance coverage for upwards of 30,000 employees. This from The WSJ: […]

Shuffling Students

UPDATE: The Board of Education voted Monday afternoon, Oct. 4, to scuttle plans for shuttering Chantilly and Highland. ———————– From Sept. 30: I’m not saying Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ latest plans of upheaval for continuous improvement have anything to do with social engineering. Here’s what I’m saying: Chantilly Elementary and Highland Mill Elementary are two Montessori schools […]
