Unemployment Ticks Up

The so-called Summer of Recovery continues to depress. The latest figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show the national unemployment rate increased to 9.6% for August, up from July’s 9.5%, while the economy shed another 54,000 jobs. Nonfarm payroll employment changed little (-54,000) in August, and the unemployment rate was about unchanged at 9.6 […]

Osama Mulvaney

What’s the difference between Osama bin Laden, the terrorist, and Mick Mulvaney, the hard-charging conservative challenging entrenched incumbent Rep. John Spratt (D-S.C.)? Not much, according to Spratt’s spiel. This from a profile of the two candidates in Columbia’s Free-Times: “If Osama bin Laden ran in this district as a Republican, he would get 38 to […]

If At First You Don’t Succeed, Lie Lie Again

Since the first Anti-Restoring Honor Rally in Washington, D.C. (held by Al Sharpton) was a complete bust, the left has decided to try and spread it’s lie again – on October 2, 2010 and November 2, 2010.  They are saying that it is not political, even though on November 2, they plan to march to […]

Gov. Purdue Suspends Gun Rights

Many thanks to Paul Valone over at the Charlotte Gun Rights Examiner for pointing out a somewhat unknown, but incredibly important, result of Governor Beverly Purdue’s declaration of a State of Emergency in advance of Hurricane “My name is” Earl.  By signing Executive Order No. 62, N.C. General Statute 14-288.7, which prohibits transporting a “dangerous weapon” […]

Really Inconvenient Truths

Um, about that whole climate change thing and how mankind is doomed to early extinction? Nevermind. Sorry about the confusion; totally our bad. This from the UK Express: THE world’s leading climate change body has been accused of losing credibility after a damning report into its research practices. A high-level inquiry into the Intergovernmental Panel […]

There’s No Business Like Faux Business

Let’s see. Mayor Anthony Foxx is tapped to chair the new Small Business Task Force of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and – presto! – we’re hit with a nicely dovetailed op-ed piece of pure hyperbole from U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis in the uptown paper of record. Coincidence, I’m sure. Or maybe it has […]

Iran Steps Backwards Into The Future

Iran is modernizing, having recently joined the nuclear age. And if you’re concerned that their atomic agenda could prove less than peaceful, take solace. Russia is on the scene, monitoring the program to ensure the Iranians play by the rules. Of course, Russia’s presence may not quell the angst within the prudent Westerner’s soul. Cold […]

Is The Iraq War Over?

With Obama’s recent announcement that the troops are coming home and the Iraq War is over, as a veteran of the first Iraq War, I have to question the reality of this.  In the first war, under former President George H.W. Bush, he pulled the plug early, while those leading the troops thought we should […]
