More Arresting Problems At CMPD
This time it’s police officer Marvin Bell, who has been charged with DWI, the latest in a string of officer-related incidents and arrests under the command of Chief Rodney Monroe.
Meanwhile, an independent audit team led by former Superior Court Judge Shirley Fulton, and comprised of retired internal affairs supervisors and investigators, will begin examining about 18 cases where Arvin Fant served as lead detective. Fant admitted last week to destroying notes and plagiarizing others in the case of accused cop-killer Demeatrius Montgomery.
If the audit team finds any discrepancies in Fant’s former cases, they’ll be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for further review. A separate CMPD internal investigation will review former homicide cases where Fant assisted on the investigations.
Great, but why stop at Fant? It is past time for the city council to order a full and independent review of myriad issues that have plagued the CMPD with Monroe at its helm, starting with the case of Marcus Jackson that councilmembers ducked earlier this year.
