What’s up with CREW & CRU?
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is the darling of mainstream media (and Rachel Maddow) often described by them as a “nonpartisan watchdog.” Newspaper reporters and cable news commentators want you to think that this collective is keeping tabs on Washington and making sure that both sides of the aisle play fair.
Don’t be fooled: CREW is as partisan as they come. If you look at the employee make-up of CREW, the results aren’t surprising: A review of past and present staff members revealed that no more than zero had worked for Republicans or for any right-leaning organizations before joining CREW. Several had worked for Democrats Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden or for left-wing organizations like the (ACLU) American Civil Liberties Union and the (NAACP) National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Also, CREW was founded by, among others, Mark Penn, a close ally of the Clintons. And where does most of the funding for CREW come from? No surprise that it’s a billionaire from eastern Europe.
So this brings up the question: Why has “Campus Crusade for Christ” decided to change it’s name to “CRU” and eliminate the name of Christ for fear of offending and not reaching non-Christians? More importantly, why would they go with a name that is so similar to the name “CREW” with a name like “CRU”?
