Sarah Cherne Announces Run for Mecklenburg County Commission, District5.
February 6, 2012-Charlotte, NC- Charlotte resident Sarah Cherne today
announced her candidacy for Mecklenburg County Commissioner, District
5, a seat long held by respected Republican Neil Cooksey who is
stepping down from his second term.
Cherne is a fiscally conservative, experienced not-for-profit
executive who believes her education, successful leadership record and
15+ years of practical business experience well equip her for the
office of Commissioner. “I have a unique understanding of many
challenges facing Mecklenburg County acquired as a non-profit
executive serving in the community, a tax-paying citizen and community
volunteer,” says Cherne.
Her position will focus on representing the concerns of citizens in
district 5 on taxation and accountability. “Over 87% of the
households in District 5 had property tax increases—the hardest hit
along with district 6 with the recent revaluation process. Many of
these residents are in the appeal process; however, there is no relief
in sight”. Cherne believes that higher taxation will not provide the
solution to the challenges facing the community.
Her platform will encompass setting a vision for economic growth which
will provide, opportunity and overall prosperity which Cherne believes
is achieved through establishing a practical plan of reducing taxes
and establishing stronger accountability for public expenditures.
“Elected officials must again be held accountable to taxpaying
citizens who ‘foot the bill’ for all government spending, national
and local.” In addition she supports open door policies for
government business, as accountability is an overarching campaign
position.
