Libertarian Chairman Endorses Republican Wayne Powers for BOCC

|

Powers Speaks to LPMeck Meeting

The Libertarian Party of Mecklenburg County (LPMeck) held its May
meeting last night in uptown Charlotte.  Tim Doran, Chair, opened the
meeting by encouraging attendees to support, volunteer for and promote
the Libertarian gubernatorial candidate, Barbara Howe, the LP
presidential candidate, Gary Johnson to ensure that they receive 2% of
the vote and LPNC maintains ballot access.  He also expressed his desire
to see members become active with the Libertarian candidate for
Mecklenburg County Commissioner At-Large, Jason Bateman.

This month’s guest speaker was Wayne Powers.  He is also candidate
for Mecklenburg County Commissioner At-Large who recently qualified in
the Republican primary.  Wayne Powers (R), Jason Bateman (L) and 5 other
candidates will vie for 3 At-Large seats on the County Commission.

Wayne is a self-described libertarian who plans to focus his campaign
on his desire to limit county government in order to protect individual
liberty, prevent further tax increases, and foster a climate friendly
to entrepreneurs and businesses that are essential to rebuilding our
local economy.  A musician, actor, radio host, and entrepreneur, Wayne
spoke to the crowd of his life experiences, political leanings, and
candidacy.  Before the meeting closed, Tim Doran gave his personal
endorsement for Wayne and encouraged registered Libertarians to look
past party labels and cast a vote for not only Jason Bateman (L) but
also Wayne Powers (R) in the Mecklenburg County Commissioner At-Large
race. According to Tim, “Jason Bateman is the official Libertaran
candidate in this race and I support him fully. However, I believe Wayne
Powers is also a candidate truly committed to Liberty and limited
government and those are too rare and too important not to support due
to party affiliation. In my opinion he represents the principles that
the Republican Party used to fight for – limited government, fiscal
responsibility, and personal liberty.”
