Activists Still Paying Attention
The 2013-2014 session of the North Carolina General Assembly began on January 9th in Raleigh. For the first time in history, Republicans hold super-majorities in both the House and Senate at the same time a Republican holds the Governorship. The GOP majority on the Supreme Court, though technically non-partisan, completes the Republican dominance in the three branches of government.
As Legislators were called to order, outside the General Assembly building nearly 200 activists were assembled at what was billed the “Honor the Oath” rally. Organized by former representative Glen Bradley, Nicole Revels of Carolina Liberty PAC, and Chuck Suter of Constitutionalwar.org, the rally was an opportunity for the people of North Carolina to remind the new legislature to literally “honor the oath” of office that they recently took to “support and maintain the Constitution and laws of the United States, and the Constitution and laws of North Carolina.”
According to Revels, the rally was meant primarily to “send a message to the NC General Assembly that the people of North Carolina didn’t go anywhere after the election and will be watching their votes this session to ensure that they honor their oaths to uphold the Constitution.”
Speakers at the rally covered topics from Obamacare nullification, the importance of adhering to the Constitution from a historical perspective, 2nd amendment protections, the right of free speech for non-profits and churches, and activism in general.
Below are videos of the speeches given at the rally. (editors note: more to come, they take forever to upload!)
