Rotten to the Core – Immediate Action Required
You may have heard that less than two weeks ago the NC House passed a bill (HB 1061) which would end the state’s participation in Common Core education standards.
House Bill 1061 promotes decentralized government and takes control from unaccountable federal bureaucrats and puts it back into the hands of the citizens of North Carolina.
The next step in the fight to get rid of Common Core in North Carolina was for the NC Senate to pass their own version of the bill. On June 5th, the NC Senate passed SB 812.
But, since the House and the Senate passed two different versions of the bill, with important variations in the language, the two bills were then sent to the House Education Committee where they will combine the two bills and determine the final language.
Sounds great right?
Well, there’s a catch.
The Senate Bill’s language, unlike the language in the House Bill, won’t actually do away with Common Core it will only rename it.
Rep. Larry Pittman (R-Cabarrus) tells us there will be an effort in the House Education Committee on Thursday afternoon to push through the Senate bill (SB 812) which would only rebrand Common Core, and do nothing more with HB 1061, the bill that was passed in the House, which would actually do away with Common Core.
This is classic bait and switch.
Those of us who want to see North Carolina eliminate Common Core are running out of time. We have less than 24 hours to let our representatives know where we stand.
This is a call to action!
We need maximum pressure on the members of the both the NC House and the House Education Committee if we are going to stop them from destroying our efforts to get rid of Common Core.
I cannot stress enough the importance of taking a few minutes to call both of the co-chairs of the House Education Committee and tell them you support the language in House Bill 1061 and you reject Senate Bill 812.

Then contact your own representative and let them know that Common Core is unacceptable and you want it eliminated completely, not rebranded.
