Romney and Ryan Stump in North Carolina
The day following the announcement of Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney’s running mate, the pair hit the road in North Carolina for stops in Mooresville and High Point. These two stops and a Sunday evening rally in Ryan’s home state of Wisconsin are likely the only times they will join each other on the campaign trail, so a rare treat for the local GOP.
The Mooresville event, from which the following video was recorded, had a capacity crowd of 1,700 inside the NASCAR Technical Institute with thousands more listening outside the venue.
Among the standard Republican red meat talking points, Romney laid out a “5 point plan” that includes taking advantage of America’s energy resources, creating an effective education environment, “fair trade”, cutting the deficit, and supporting small businesses with lower taxes and decreased regulation.
Perhaps the largest applause line of the speech came at the 18:20 mark. Continuing to utilize President Obama’s “you didn’t build that” flub, Romney responded with, “Now I know, that to get to school, they (an honor roll student) had to go on a bus, and have a bus driver. But if they get the honor roll, I don’t give the credit to the bus driver, I give it to the kid.”
