Let’s Play “Pick a Chairman”

|

Did you get any good games for Christmas?  Long after the fudge is eaten, the clothes are returned and the new football is scuffed, the game boards are still bright and shiny and waiting for cold weather and your undivided attention.

The forecast is for snow; let the games begin!

Here’s the new one, called “Pick a Chairman”.   (It was between Scrabble and Monopoly.)

First you lay out the game board, which looks a little like “Chutes and Ladders”.  Then you choose your “man”.

You can either be SB, who is a cross between the actor Joe Pesci (from “My Cousin Vinny” – not “Home Alone”) and the Energizer Bunny; or you can be GM, who is as assertive as the cartoon character “Droopy” and as exciting as a new package of silly putty.

All right, SB, your turn.  Draw a card.  Uh oh, your supporter is not a registered Republican by January 31.  You lose a turn.

Now it’s my turn.  I’m GM.  I draw a card.  It says, “You have the support of a great Vice Chair.  Move ahead four spaces.”  I draw again.  This card says:  “Republicans never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity – can you disprove this?”  Hummm . . . . . . . . . . BZZZZZ – Time!

It’s SB’s turn to draw a card.  It says, “You gave a powerful speech.  Move ahead six spaces.”  Congratulations, you landed on the Feb. 17 Precinct Meetings!  You draw another card.   It says, “You alienated supporters by suggesting they stop using the word ‘conservative’.  You lose a turn.”

I draw a card for GM.  It says, “Congratulations, you have more friends on your facebook page.  Advance to the March 19 County Convention.”   I draw another card for GM.  It says, “You gave a good speech, but no one heard you because your opponent took the microphone.  And you let him.  You both lose a turn.”

Oh no . . . the power’s gone out.  But it’s still early in the game – anything could happen.  Someone could become a statesman.  Someone could become a great leader.  Someone will win the election.
