County GOP shows once again why change is needed

|

So, did everyone see who the Mecklenburg GOP is bringing into town as the keynote speaker for their Lincoln-Reagan Day dinner?  None other than the divisive neo-conservative Karl Rove. While I am impressed that the local party was able to bring in someone with a name, I am very disappointed with the choice of someone who turns off 30-40% of the Republican party.

Mr. Rove should be given tremendous credit for being the “architect” behind the two Bush wins in 2000 and 2004.  He should also be looked at in a very negative light for his neo-conservatism, and bringing that line of political thought into the Bush Administration. This has caused a rift in the GOP, which cannot be healed until we all realize why we are Republicans. Neo-conservatism is what brought down Bush’s popularity, caused the Democrat Congressional victories in 2006, and the Obama landslide in 2008. It is also directly responsible for the nasty intra-party fights of 2010, which unfortunately, are still occuring.  A figure like Mr. Rove coming to speak shows what “side” of this fight the local party is on.  It’s just more of the same, which will lead to more losing.

This shows why it is so important to work for change in our party. We don’t need any more division. This only weakens our already fragile party here in Mecklenburg County. We need to GROW our party and expose more people to the message of liberty, free enterprise, and free markets. I’m not so sure Mr. Rove agrees with those basic tenets of Republicanism. We don’t need to hear ideas which caused us to lose big in the last half of the last decade. We need to move forward with the ideas of less government and more freedom, and not the same tired neo-conservative arguments that turn people off to the Republican message.
