Resistance Is Futile!

|

In my last post, “This Abortion’s On You,” I reported the fact both Charlotte and Mecklenburg County offer taxpayer funded abortion “benefits” in their respective group health plans to city and county employees, and have done so for at least the past 25 years. I mentioned that I had asked all three GOP Councilman – Peacock, Dulin, and Cooksey, along with County GOP Chariman Rob Bryan – to take action to change this government policy, and that none of them had responded to my very reasonable request.

Chairman Bryan subsequently responded to my post, and I quote:

“A number of emails were sent to CC folks about this (from myself and others) – the response was that an attempt to elevate the matter to the council for a vote would likely be counter-productive, in fact, other groups lobbying the CC might insist that the plan be expanded to cover domestic partner benefits in addition to elective abortions – unfortunately, the Republicans do not have the votes to stop the Democrats from providing the health plan that the Democrats want. ”

So if the Republicans we elect to city council try to advance Republican principles our Democrat masters will get mad and grind us down evern more than they already have. Sacre Bleu!! It seems that local GOP leadership is composed of Frenchman instead of Americans. I don’t think anyone would mistake these guys for George Patton, or even Pee Wee Herman for that matter.

Taking the Chairman’s line of reasoning to its logical conclusion it would be best for the local Republican Party to disband, since disagreeing with Democrats on public policy matters will only infuriate them, which will motivate them to govern us even more ruthlessly.

As any casual student of history will be happy to tell you taking this approach to tyranny always succeeds. If we will only submit to the Democrats with a big smile on our faces (no one does this better than Ed Peacock – well maybe Pat McCrory), why one day those nice Democrats are just going to say to themselves: “You know, these Republicans are really swell people and it’s high time we let these people have their way for a change so we’re just going to go ahead and let them run things around here any gosh darn way they want and we’ll just stand around and watch with a big smile on our faces because we are kind, and charitable, and above all fair, and it makes us feel sooooo good to be nice to inferior people. So you Republicans just go ahead, take power. It’s all yours!!”.

Feeble attempts at humor aside, Chairman Bryan’s comments are incredibly revealing about the political situation in this community. For starters, you will never read a more transparent sampling of the Ruling Class Elitist mind at work. Some historical context is in order.

For the last 60 years there have been two main groups comprising the GOP.The Republican establishment has been made up of RCE’s exemplified by Nelson Rockefeller, Nixon, the Bush’s etc. Though they would never admit it in a million years, these people believe the principles which the GOP espouses are obsolete in the modern world and cannot possibly triumph in the public square due to the basic weakness, immorality, and ignorance of the American people, which renders them incapable of self-government.

Because of the low estate of the American citizenry socialism is the inevitable wave of the future, and the best the GOP can do is manage the inevitable transition more skillfully. The GOP establishment concedes defeat and believes the very best outcome RCE Republicans can hope for is an accommodation with the Progressives. When elected to public office they have governed accordingly.

The other wing of the party, the Conservatives, have had one national leader, Ronald Reagan. He had a deep love and respect for the American people and thoroughly believed in their basic goodness. Reagan believed the spirit of freedom which animated the nation’s founding still lived within the vast majority of our citizen’s. His governing principles reflected those of the Founder’s. In the 1980 and 1984 elections 91 states validated the power of the idea’s he so skillfully and bravely presented to the American people.

Reagan succeeded to such an extent his legacy has been carried on by a minority of Republicans; the best  current examples being Demint, Paul, and Lee in the U.S. Senate, and the huge number of Tea Party candidates elected to the U.S. House in the 2010 landslide. Today even the establishment attempts to co-opt Reagan’s memory.

Which brings us back to Chairman Bryan’s musings about local taxpayer funded abortions. What the Chairman and the three City Councilmen are implicitly saying to us is that the people of this community want taxpayer funded abortion and will never be persuaded otherwise, because due to their inherent corruption, they are incapable of even the most basic morality. They are establishment, Ruling Class Elitist’s, admittedly junior members, but members nonetheless.

Even if they didn’t have such a low opinion of the citizens of this community these four gentleman would still do nothing about taxpayer funded abortion in Charlotte. They serve at the pleasure of the Ruling Class and they realize they are on a very short leash.

The RCE allows Peacock, Dulin, and Cooksey to serve on City Council to achieve two objectives. One is to allow the city bureaucracy to grow the size and scope of local government with no dissent, and the other is to make sure the light rail system is built out. These two functions do not require any particular skill set.

If they were impertinent enough to make a stink about taxpayer funded abortions it would offend the RCE and they would be eliminated in a heartbeat. They saw what happened to Pat McCrory when Hugh McColl decided he couldn’t be mayor any longer and replaced him with Anthony Foxx.

As for Chairman Bryan, he is a partner with Womble Carlyle, the largest white shoe law firm in town. He practices real estate law. Two of WC’s local clients are BOA and Wachovia. They have bought  tremendous amounts of property along the proposed routes of the light rail system which will be much more valuable once the system is built out. They also seem to be able to exert an inordinate amount of influence about the way this community is governed and might not approve of one of their hired attorney’s doing something they perceived as politically incorrect.

These four public servants know very well who calls the shots in this town and rocking the boat is just not an option.
