Democrats on Track Toward Fiscal Disaster
The following opinion piece from me was submitted, but NOT printed, by the Charlotte Obfuscator. I thought it was worth sharing….
Several of the Charlotte Observer’s “Opinion” writers simply can’t understand why anyone would want to turn down money from the federal government for a new rail boondoggle…er, “project” from Charlotte to Raleigh. (The fact that the governors of at least three other states have already done this doesn’t seem to be relevant to them or affect their “Gimmee! Gimmee!” “freeloader” mindset!)
WE know that it’s not like the money is really a gift from someone else, folks. This federal money still comes out of OUR pockets….or more correctly, from our CHILDREN’S or GRANDCHILDREN’S pockets! The typical Charlotte Obfuscator fan does not seem to recognize that we are ALL still paying for this, nor that this money comes from a federal government that is already trillions of dollars in the hole. While the typical “Charlotte ‘Obfuscatee’ ” does not seem to be affected by what is going on here, many of us clearly do not want to to dig ourselves in even deeper by further exacerbating this fiscal mess created by the spend-spend-spend crowd still in control of the U.S. Senate, the White House, and the NC Governor’s office!
The Democrats are touting all the jobs that are “created” by this scam. Does it, in fact, make any sense to pay over $96,000 for each short-term, TEMPORARY job that is ostensibly created by this project? (Maybe the proponents are not up to doing the simple mathematical division?) And, like most government-managed projects, particularly the ones created by Democrats, the total cost will probably come in at over twice the figure the proponents are claiming. It’s equally specious to insist that this will be “..a 125 mph train service,” when the train has to stop repeatedly for what amounts to a negligibly shorter trip time.
And what are going to be the REAL increased operating costs for this latest boondoggle that is evidently another benefit to big Dem party benefactor, General Electric? (GE is making billions off of wind-driven generators, electric vehicle charging stations, etc.) This rail scam is just adds more expense to the state of North Carolina that is already $3 billion dollars in the red just this year! This operating burden, like that of Charlotte’s “Light Rail,” will just be another permanent albatross around the necks of the taxpayers! The people hyping this thing are conspicuously silent on that.
To paraphrase the great Winston Churchill, “We contend that for a nation to try to tax [and spend] itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.” It is shameful that the people who label themselves Democrats and who claim intellectual and moral superiority to us
of the “unwashed masses” and Teaparty groups, seem to not be able to get a handle on either basic economics or common sense.
