Act Like Men, Defend Your Ladies
For several years now, I have observed that real street fighting political muscle in the GOP comes from women.
Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham, Tammy Bruce, and many others have been carrying the intellectual arguments for conservatism while Newt Gingrich hit the couch with Nancy Pelosi and Mitt Romney installed Obamacare the prequel. President Bush was busy telling us “I’ve abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system,” and every time the administration needed to talk to a journalist, they hid behind the skirts of Condoleezza Rice.
None of that compares to the arrival and subsequent mistreatment of Governor Sarah Palin. At first, it was just liberal media hacks tripping her up over what magazines she reads, because you know, that’s what’s going to save America. The real answer to what magazines she reads is “Who cares?”
The liberals conducted a trial-by-dumpster-diving across Alaska like they were looking for the Holy Grail, but all they came up with was a phony book banning story, a rape-kit conspiracy theory and another conspiracy that Trig Palin was actually her grandson.
Then Senator McCain’s worker bees started sniping at her and they were quickly joined by the establishment, who decided they did not like a leader who could raise money and pack an auditorium without their blessing.
Her family was put into $500,000.00 worth of debt from phony ethics complaints. When she figured she could resign and save her financial future by coming down to the lower 48 and scaring some liberals, she was called a quitter. By liberals. At first. Then the magic took hold and the impotent Republican leadership found the nail in her coffin they had been craving for so long. She was a quitter!
Quitter quickly became “unelectable” and now here we stand, an ungrateful party who won’t defend the heroine who defeated Obamacare’s end of life provision with a Facebook account and was singled out by the DNC’s ad “Don’t let Sarah win.” in 2010. She backed 53 candidates of which 33 won. It should be noted she also came out against Dede Scozzafava, a liberal wolf that was endorsed by Newt Gingrich for New York’s 23rd congressional district. Pretty good for being “unelectable.”
She was also “unelectable” as Mayor and “unelectable” as Governor, and her biggest detractor was a Republican named Andrew Halcro who was angry that she beat him, 48% to his 10% the rest going to a third Democratic opponent.
Ronald Reagan was called unelectable by Republicans, even by the sitting Republican President Gerald Ford. I don’t pine for Sarah to be President, but I do demand Republicans and other-than-leftists stop lapping up the talking points. Wilson, FDR, Carter, and Obama were electable. So was Nixon. Can we really afford more of these “electable” types?
The simple fact is she is an easier target for republicans who don’t want to do the heavy lifting of combating President Obama and his OFA machine. It’s an excuse not to show up at your local party office and volunteer. It’s a cop out to make yourself look above the fray and a tool to play sophisticated.
And really let’s just face the fact that Republican men at every level have dropped the ball. If you go to a Republican Party function, it is usually run by women. Political clubs are organized and run by women. The candidates I have worked for had women managers and my stint with Victory during the 2008 Election, was bolstered by women I worked for and alongside.
You don’t need to endorse Sarah Palin for President, you just need to pick up the balls you have dropped and say “What does Paul Revere have to do with stopping another phony stimulus package?”
The milquetoast attitude of DC do nothings has contaminated our male electorate. When a cocky Democrat Congressman named Weiner, has to admit to tweeting his weiner, after denying tweeting his weiner and you are still arguing about an off the cuff Paul Revere story, do you really think you deserve to win?
