A 1999 Cum Laude graduate of UNC Charlotte’s Belk College of Business, Christian has spent fifteen years as an award winning political activist and consultant in both North and South Carolina...with a little radio talk show hosting and newspaper editing thrown in for good measure. A self-described "Republitarian", Christian is an unabashed advocate of traditional free market capitalism and views passage of the FairTax as the single most effective method to combat the social manipulation and corruption found in government today. When not stressing over yet another new law, Christian enjoys treasure hunting, obscure European power metal bands, good beer, and anything related to Carolina Panthers football...except talking about the 2001 season. He's removed that from memory.

The Ridenhour – Cotham Townhall Meeting

Last night, for what I believe is the first time ever, two Mecklenburg County Commissioners from different Political Parties held a joint town hall event at Morrison Regional Library. District 5 Republican Matthew Ridenhour and At-Large Democrat Pat Cotham spent roughly ninety minutes discussing issues and answering questions.  The duo was joined by the two Republican Charlotte […]

Not Just About Bathrooms

With a 6-5 vote on Monday, the Charlotte City Council defeated the proposed changes that would have amended sections of the city code to extend nondiscrimination language to five new characteristics: familial status, marriage status, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. This was the correct outcome. Supporters of both positions were out in force to […]

Non-Discrimination Ordinance Debate Postponed

Originally scheduled for tonight’s Charlotte City Council meeting, the proposed Non-Discrimination Ordinance discussion has been rescheduled to March 2. The ordinance would add sexual orientation and gender identity, among other characteristics, to four city non-discrimination ordinances. According to the Council-Manager memo, this change “will accommodate the significant number of speakers who have requested to address City Council on this […]

International Music Scene Finally Hits Charlotte

Ok, so this has nothing to do with politics at all, but in support of both Charlotte’s reputation and my personal music affiliations, I can’t think of a time when I was any more excited than right now. On May 13, the Fillmore Charlotte will host three of my favorite bands….Nightwish, Delain, and Sabaton.  These […]

Bush Campaign Underway in NC

The first shot across the bow for domination of Presidential politics in North Carolina visited my inbox yesterday.  I received an email from Theresa Kostrzewa touting former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. Kostrzewa is a 19 year veteran of NC politics currently working for Capital Results, a “full-service public affairs and business consulting firm with offices in the state […]

GOP Senate Votes to Raise Gas Tax

Republicans in the General Assembly are becoming ever more creative in figuring out ways to separate people from their money.  First we are told that the state is “oh so broke” and only toll lanes and HOT lanes can possibly solve our nagging infrastructure problems.  Now, the same folks are advocating for higher gas taxes, […]

Do The Grades Hide CMS Failings?

For the first time yesterday, the state released letter grades for all the k-12 schools across North Carolina. Senator Phil Berger, who was instrumental in passing the legislation requiring the grades, said that they are an important tool for parents, administrators, policymakers, and taxpayers.  I would tend to agree moreso if parents could then utilize […]

A Brief Commentary on Partisan Elections

I was just having a conversation on Facebook with a friend of mine who posted a note thanking his state senator for opposing efforts by some in his county to move to non-partisan elections.  He happens to be a sitting County Commissioner in one of those “foreign” eastern NC counties. 🙂 If you have at […]
