Stories written by Mark PellinAn award-winning journalist and former editor of The Rhinoceros Times in Charlotte, Pellin has been called everything from a misguided troglodyte to a professional agitator. He prefers the label of a realist, the guy in the crowd telling everybody that not only doesn’t the emperor have any clothes; he’s trying to steal ours.
Pellin has covered the Char-Meck scene for the better part of two decades, earning his fair share of fans and more than a few critics who wish he’d move to Nome, Alaska, and be eaten by wild bears.
When he’s not writing, he stays busy enjoying time with his wife and two kids. When he can break away for some R&R, he likes to fly fish (even if he doesn’t catch anything) and camp (even if it rains).
The mainstream media is shell shocked by the latest polling numbers coming out of Michigan, where the RCP average shows Mitt Romney pulling to well within the margin of error among likely voters and the Bailout King’s lead withering to a slim three points, down from six less than a month ago. As a result, […]

The headline might sound like an apt post-Election Day analysis, but let’s not jump the gun quite yet. For now, have a Happy Halloween and enjoy some tricks and treats: For some reason, mine never end up looking this good:

So says David Axelrod over on CNN, where the headline informs that Negativity isn’t Obama’s closing message. Um, OK. Absolutely nothing negative in The One’s latest ad spot, about a world “where gays can be fixed and sick people just die and oil fills the sea.” Nope, pure positive energy and a laser focus on […]

I’m going to go out on a limb and assume this wasn’t highlighted on the Charlotte Chamber’s inter-city visit NYC itinerary: A city cop with a taste for human flesh was charged Thursday with plotting to kidnap, torture, “slow cook” and eat women he tracked down through law enforcement databases. Accused cannibal cop Gilberto Valle, […]

The Pittsburgh Steelers are rolling into Sunday’s game sporting throwback jerseys from 1934, which have been roundly panned by critics – including team president Art Rooney II, who conceded they looked “like a prison uniform” when they were unveiled earlier this year to help celebrate the franchise’s 80th anniversary. Bumble Bee Convicts? A preview courtesy […]

Four Americans were betrayed and left to die in Benghazi, while Team Obama sat on their collective thumbs watching the 9/11 terrorist attack on the US consulate unfold. This from Fox News: Fox News has learned from sources who were on the ground in Benghazi that an urgent request from the CIA annex for military […]

I’m all for a robust GOTV effort, but a push in Eagle Rock, Calif., took it to a new, um, high: Fliers offering $40 worth of free medical-grade marijuana were reportedly passed out in Eagle Rock to try and draw residents to vote in the local election. Was the free pot an incentive to get […]

Of the pseudo sexual-electoral type, that is, via the latest desperation ad from the Obama campaign that manages to grossly insult young women as it tries to woo their vote. The spot, featuring Lena Dunham from the HBO series Girls is laced with double entendre that simultaneously plays ditzy and creepy as it conflates a young […]

After having to scrap their trip earlier this year to London, a gaggle of elected officials and GovCo staffers from Mecklenburg County, the city of Charlotte, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are off this week taking a bite out of the Big Apple, and lifting a chunk of change from the taxpayers’ pocket in the process, as […]
