9/12 Rally Recap
American patriots from as far away as Washington state descended on Washington, D.C. Sunday for the second annual 9.12 rally to protest the actions of President Obama and the members of Congress who have supported his big-government socialist agenda.
Patriots by the thousands gathered at the Washington Monument and marched down Constitution Avenue in orderly fashion to the Capitol waving signs and chanting impromptu slogans like “Can You Hear Us Now” and “Remember In November.” Thousands more gathered at the Capitol filling the West Front and overflowing into the fountain area adjacent to the National Mall. Attendance was estimated to be more than the number who attended the healthcare vote rally, but less than the number who attended the 9.12 event last year. This was due in part to the hundreds of thousands who attended Glenn Beck’s recent Restoring Honor event.
The rally attendees heard speeches from leadership of the Freedomworks organization including Dick Armey and Matt Kibbe. A major focus for the rally was the promotion of the “Contract From America” which is a grass roots effort to hold those running for office accountable to the principles of smaller government, lower taxes, and less spending by having them sign off on their acceptance of the document. Details of the “Contract From America” are at www.thecontract.org.
Giving political speeches at major rallies is truly an art form and several speakers proved they have mastered that art. Tito Munoz of the Conservative Hispanic Coalition fired up the crowd with his impassioned defense of freedom in America. Munoz, who immigrated to the United States from Columbia and has become an American citizen, swore to defend freedom and the principles in the Constitution. Congressman Mike Pence of Indiana stirred the crowd by insisting that after the upcoming November elections, Speaker Nancy Pelosi would be out of a job as Majority Leader and that Republicans would regain control of the House of Representatives.
Rallies bring out the best in creative sign design and this event was no exception. A group of firefighters brought a computer generated sign that featured a picture of American Socialist Party politician Norman Mattoon Thomas with his famous slogan: “The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” And so in just a few weeks Americans will go to the polls again and we will find out if Mr. Thomas was correct or if the American people are truly energized in the defense of freedom and liberty for this and future generations.
Rally’s like this years’ 9.12 event give us encouragement that freedom will prevail.
