The Weekly Activist

For folks who are interested,  the Charlotte City Council will be taking up the Mecklenburg Mills refurbishment subsidy issue again after a two week postponement.  Council nearly (rightly) killed the idea of providing 2.4 million dollars to the developers who bought the mills back in 2011 two weeks ago, but Mayor Foxx suggested the delayed vote.  No doubt much arm twisting has been done during these two weeks to urge passage, so it is up to us to make sure Council knows we continue to pay attention to this boondoggle in the works.

The developer, according to the city’s own agenda item, has none of their own money in the project.  “The Community Builders (TCB) is a non-profit corporation which depends on a combination of philanthropic, public sector awards, and retained earnings as their major sources of risk capital.”  IE.  They risk tax dollars on projects rather than their own capital.
The meeting starts at 6:30pm at the Government Center with this item scheduled immediately following awards and recognitions and consent agenda items.  Brings your voices and/or your signs!

Obama’s Broken Promises

Continuing the string of posts regarding President Obama’s broken promises, this week we’ll remind you of his promise for:

Open And Honest Healthcare Hearings.

Here is a video of Obama from November 2007, claiming he would televise the Healthcare hearings on C-Span, how he would not allow this to happen in secret meetings, how open and honest he would be, with everyone invited to the table. That obviously didn’t happen.  Even Pelosi admitted that we’d have to pass the bill before we know what’s in it!! http://youtu.be/OdlEO0hJfGY
