Excuses for Funding Obamacare Fade in the Sunlight of Facts and Logic
Many of my fellow Republicans who are in the US House and Senate claim to “oppose” Obamacare, stating they have voted for several window-dressing bills to “repeal” it. Good. But when the rubber meets the road, any vote for a continuing resolution funds it.
Consider the flawed arguments from these Congressmen and Senators:
- First, they tried the “they’ll cut off money to troops” argument, but no one bought that from the beginning. Not even the democrats are that dumb. It appears that these congressmen have backed off that position.
- Then they tried argument two, the “Newt lost the House” argument, insinuating that after Newt Gingrich’s “government shutdown” in 1995, the Republicans then “lost the House.” Problem though, is that the after the “shutdown” of 1995, Republicans controlled the House for another 11 years, until 2006. Oops.
- Finally, there’s the recent “it’s all funded anyway” argument, where they claim that “Obamacare is 98% funded anyway.”
But this latest argument defies logic and moral principle. Nobody believes that Obamacare is already “98% funded.” If this were true, then why worry about Harry Reid “shutting down the government”? There would be no need for argument 2. But these weak kneed Republicans worry about Harry Reid “shutting the government down and blaming republicans” because they know withholding funds in a continuing resolution will damage Obamacare. They are afraid, politically, of “getting blamed.” Huh? Please, can we take a stand for what is right and good for our country?
Recent polling data shows that 56% of Americans favor a CR that does not include funding for Obamacare while a whopping 82% of Republicans favor a CR that defunds Obama care.
No Republican worth his/her salt should vote to send one penny to a monstrosity that funds abortions, hires an army of IRS agents, and enacts oppressive regulations that attack the church and destroy small business.
I implore you, fellow Republicans. Do the right thing. Return to your conservative promises. Defund this monstrosity.” Support Tom Graves’s bill, which would fully fund the government while defunding Obamacare. Join Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and Congressman Mark Meadows (R-NC)by signing a letter that you will refuse to vote for any continuing resolution containing Obamacare funding and let Harry Reid “shut down the government. (Kudos to Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC) who has already done this.)
In the words of Brant Clinton of The Daily Haymaker:
“Republicans promised to defund Obamacare when they took over Congress. They failed half a dozen times. This is the last chance. If they are not up to the task, they need to be repealed and replaced.”
Not one red penny for Obamacare. Not one.
