What A Crying Child Tells Us About Election Coverage

|

You’re not the only one ready for the election to be over.

Four-year-old Abigael Evans got picked up from a long day at her Colorado pre-K school. Her mother, Elizabeth Evans, 27, turned on NPR in the car.

The coverage resulted in this:

Yes, Abigael, sometimes NPR coverage does the same thing to me. Completely understandable. Once I had to be consoled by a Wal-Mart greeter after inadvertantly catching the end of an NPR story on the angst-ridden life of the dust mite.

The prolonged GOP primary coupled with the massive amount of news and opinion sources has created an information overload for many of us. Like trying to drink from a firehose.

But this story is a bit depressing for another reason.

The ABC News story about Abigael offers this:

“She talks about Mitt Romney and Barack Obama all the time,” Evans continues to tell ABC. “She always says that Obama is the president and that Mitt Romney is a bad guy who just wants money and wants to be the president… She is very precocious.”

And by “precocious,” I guess mommy actually means “brainwashed.”

Mommy Evans even tells ABC the family doesn’t own a TV, so the ONLY exposure this little girl gets is from the radio (NPR, naturally) and whatever Mommy and Daddy are talking about.

So, with only those three sources, this child believes “Romney is a bad guy who just wants money.”

Bravo NPR.

Bravo Mom & Dad.
