Team BO: Forward In Reverse
Official unofficial results: Obama snags 303 electoral votes; Romney tallies 206. The popular vote shows Obama at 50% (59,631,659) and Romney at 48% (57,001,726) ~ a spread of just over two million votes.
Meanwhile, we will still have House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and a looming fiscal cliff. This from the CS Monitor:
Post-election, the GOP-led House still sees its mandate as tax-hike prevention. Obama and the Democrats still want to raise taxes for the wealthy. But if they don’t work together, the looming ‘fiscal cliff’ – which no one wants to see – may doom them all.
Charles Krauthammer summed it up nicely just after FOX News called it for The One: “The problem is that country will slide right through a second term because I don’t see give on either side, particularly with a president with a very weak mandate for a second term … If that sounds kind of negative, I’m sorry. I think I depressed half of the country. So as a psychiatrist, I will offer to write prescriptions for anybody who needs them right now.”
We’ll have analysis, etc., eventually. This is all I got for now: we are officially the Gimme Generation.
