Protest Planned for Obama Visit
President Barack Obama last visited Charlotte on the eve of his election victory in November of 2008.
On April 2, 2010 he is returning (presumably on the theme of jobs and the economy) two weeks after Mayor Anthony Foxx and a group of local business leaders visited the White House to talk about the Charlotte area’s economic woes.
With the healthcare fight still fresh on many voters minds, and a recent Rasmussen poll showing that 55% of Americans favor repeal of the new law, local conservative grassroots leaders are in the process of organizing a peaceful demonstration during the President’s visit.
Details of the President’s travel itinerary are as yet unavailable, but a Facebook event has been created to keep potential activists up to date on the latest information.
You can visit that event by clicking here.
While such protests are unlikely to sway the President’s agenda, they are an important tool. They serve to reiterate to American citizens troubled by the direction of this country that they are not alone in their beliefs. It is important for those watching on television or reading in blogs to realize that others are still prepared to fight with them for a better America. Protestors are the one’s keeping the torch lit for others to rally behind.
We hope you’ll join in.
