National Firearm Registration and Disarmament Just Became a Reality
Today, US Secretary of State John Kerry signed the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty. It now goes to the US Senate for ratification. It will pass.
In response to the NRA and other critics who say this treaty will lead to national gun registration, and the possible disarming of Americans, Kerry was quoted on Reuters today as saying, “We are talking about the kind of export controls that for decades have not diminished one iota our ability in the United States as Americans to exercise our rights under the constitution.”

But quoting the Treaty itself we read:
1) The treaty applies to all conventional arms, including small arms and light weapons. Article 2 (1h)
2) Each nation shall establish a national control list of such arms, and provide it to the UN. Article 5 (2, 4)
3) Each nation is encouraged to include information on the end users of such arms. Article 12 (3)
4) Each nation is entitled to legal and financial assistance from the UN for the purpose of disarmament. Article 16 (1).

Common sense tells us if you’ve agreed to control which arms are exported illegally from your country, then you need to know what arms are in your country legally and who has them.
So, yeah, the NRA has this one right.
