Adventures of Sign #75
As a long time politico, it’s easy to occasionally get jaded with the tried and true methods of grassroots campaigning. I’m always impressed with a new way of getting a message out, and Kristie Chapman has definately filled that bill with the personification of a campaign yardsign’s adventures in Mecklenburg….

Hello, Charlotte! I would like to introduce myself.
I’m Corey Thompson’s “Sign #75”.
I am one of the many red and white signs proudly displayed in Mecklenburg County to tell the community about Corey Thompson.
As fate would have it, I was entrusted to a campaign volunteer with an interesting sense of humor…since my caretaker lives in an apartment, I quickly became the traveling mascot for the Corey Thompson for Mecklenburg County Commission at Large Campaign.
The question I hear most often is, “Why are Corey Thompson’s signs numbered?”
That’s simple. It’s about responsibility.
Each sign for the Corey Thompson for Mecklenburg County Commission at Large campaign is numbered, and each campaign volunteer reports back with the location of the sign to make sure that it is placed according to our city and county ordinances. It’s just one small example of how our candidate takes responsibility very seriously.
Interestingly enough, it made keeping track of MY location a little bit challenging, since I go everywhere my campaign volunteer goes…and let it suffice to say, my caretaker does not sit still for long.
So…she decided that the best way to keep track of my whereabouts was to sign me up for Twitter and let me write my very own blog, so we could keep an eyewitness account of our grand adventures…and of course, to make sure that I stayed within the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections ordinance, section 10-212…
We’ve had a blast so far – and my travels and adventures have brought a fun atmosphere to our campaign!
But my job is bigger than that. Much bigger.
Charlotte needs to know that they have a chance to elect someone to County Commission that believes in our great community and the people that make it so special.
They can elect someone who understands the daily struggles of people in our community who have been hit hard by the recession – and can’t afford to have money they need for basic necessities taken from them for more taxes and spending.
They can elect someone who shares the priorities of the citizens of Mecklenburg County, and is committed to being their voice on the Mecklenburg County Commission.
My job is to make absolutely sure that Charlotte knows the name of that special “someone” on election day:
Corey Thompson.
I would be delighted if you would follow my adventures through the primary on May 4th by helping our campaign keep track of me on Twitter! My “Twitter handle” is @sign_75 …and you can follow my blog at http://sign75.blogspot.com !
Most importantly, learn more about Corey on his campaign website at www.coreythompson.us, and Vote for Corey in the May 4th primary!
