R.I.P. Bubba Smith
Former N.F.L. All-Pro turned Hollywood actor Bubba Smith died Wednesday. Sometimes I catch myself wondering what classic gridiron greats like Smith would think about the game today. Not much, I imagine: too clean and not enough grit, too flash and not enough funk, too Astroturf and not enough dirt. Too much empty filler and not enough real taste.
