Stories written by Mark PellinAn award-winning journalist and former editor of The Rhinoceros Times in Charlotte, Pellin has been called everything from a misguided troglodyte to a professional agitator. He prefers the label of a realist, the guy in the crowd telling everybody that not only doesn’t the emperor have any clothes; he’s trying to steal ours.
Pellin has covered the Char-Meck scene for the better part of two decades, earning his fair share of fans and more than a few critics who wish he’d move to Nome, Alaska, and be eaten by wild bears.
When he’s not writing, he stays busy enjoying time with his wife and two kids. When he can break away for some R&R, he likes to fly fish (even if he doesn’t catch anything) and camp (even if it rains).
The Charlotte City Council this week threw another $1.25 million into the decaying Johnston and Mecklenburg mills in the north Davidson NoDa neighborhood, adding to the nearly $7 million of taxpayer loot that has already been sucked into the mills money pit as part of the city’s quest to salvage a piece of history and […]

Leading up to last night’s presidential debate I was in lockstep agreement with the premise that the liberal mainstream media, however the actual debate unfolded, would declare Barack Obama the hands-down winner. By a landslide. By every measure. No contest. To change that narrative would’ve taken a wholly abysmal and floundering performance by Obama and a […]

Super Bowl, huh? Taxpayer-funded stadium upgrades? Right: Matt Ryan took an awful beating. Another win for the Atlanta Falcons will make the pain a lot easier to take. Shaking off a career-high seven sacks, Ryan completed a 59-yard pass to Roddy White with about a minute remaining, setting up Matt Bryant’s 40-yard field goal that […]

Eleven years after, remember and pray for the victims and their families; the courageous heroes who served and continue to serve our country and communities. Remember not just on Patriot Day, but also throughout the years, the freedom and liberty of this great nation; and exactly what makes it so enduring and unique.

There’s ample reason to suspect that Barack Obama copped a sneak peak at the August jobs report before delivering his DNC acceptance speech last night, which would go a long way in explaining his wholly lackluster and anemic performance. The magic is gone, and so are the jobs. One word can sum up both Obama’s […]

That’s the former mayor’s take on the Queen City’s DNC experience and the heavy-duty, paramilitary security drop that’s landed on Charlotte. This from National Review: “You’ll not meet many people from Charlotte here this week,” (McCrory said). “The security is keeping everybody away. They wouldn’t even let me in this building — which is outside […]
