The “minor” Changes To Benghazi Talking Points Not So Minor

Oh my. This report from ABC News is pretty damaging. State Department spokesman Victoria Nuland raised specific objections to this paragraph drafted by the CIA in its earlier versions of the talking points: “The Agency has produced numerous pieces on the threat of extremists linked to al-Qa’ida in Benghazi and eastern Libya.  These noted that, […]

The Bad Business Of Incentives – MetLife Version

And this is why government shouldn’t be giving preferntial tax treatment to companies. A story in the Charlotte Observer raises questions about whether Mecklenburg County government officials really needed to throw millions of dollars at MetLife in order to lure the insurance giant to North Carolina. On Saturday, less than 24 hours after a press conference announcing […]

Sequester Stupidity About Smart ‘Cuts’

Before I offer any comments, just take a moment to watch this clip, and let it sink in for a minute. Pay special attention to the comments at about 58 seconds. Here’s the money quote: “The problem is when you’re cutting $85 billion in seven months, which represents over a 10-percent cut in the defense budget in seven months, […]

Is The GOP Ready For A Libertarian Presidential Candidate?

Republican US Senator Rand Paul (KY) says the path forward for the GOP in national elections is to get someone on the ballot who is a little more libertarian. Sort of like him, coincidentally. Appearing on FOX News Sunday, Sen. Paul made his case: If Rand Paul is right, he’s positioning himself pretty well. He […]

The Left’s Talking Points & Strategy

In case you thought “talking points” was just a catch-phrase… it’s not. But rarely does the public get a peek behind the political veil like we’re getting now. In a 38-page memo leaked to the media, North Carolina progressives lay out the poll-tested line of attack against their Republican opponents. Read the entire memo here. First, kudos […]

Rubio’s Water & Rand’s Speech

Thank goodness the Associated Press was able to cut through the wonkish bromides, promises of greater things, and platitudes of excellence imbued in the State of the Union speech and the GOP response: Social media erupted with all sorts of jokes. Soon after Rubio ended the address, he tweeted this picture under the heading “GOP […]

McCrory ‘Slapped’ Into The Briar Patch

Last night the North Carolina State Senate voted to reject federal Obamacare money and the requisite expansion of Medicaid. Before she left office, former Governor Bev Perdue (D) accepted $74 million from the feds to start setting up a “hybrid” state exchange under the Affordable Care Act. Now, Republicans overturned it. Before they did, Gov. Pat […]

My Impending Xenophobia Diagnosis

It turns out a few US Senators have been meeting and drafting new legislation that would “solve” the illegal immigration problem in the US. The Washington Post describes the group as “meeting quietly.” Others might call it “meeting in secret.” So who are the quiet meeters? Six total – three from each party. The Democrats: Senate […]

The Biased Bent Of Keeping The Governor Honest

Hey Media Folks, you can all go cover other stories rather than Gov. Pat McCrory. WRAL has announced it will track every promise made by newly-sworn-in McCrory on its website. Which is sort of odd because I thought the media was already supposed to keep track of promises made, kept, and broken by elected leaders. This […]

Is Santa A Democrat Or Republican?

Because a pollster’s idea of “Happy Holidays” means combining politics with Jesus’ birth…. the folks at Public Policy Polling released a survey that asked people whether they thought Santa Claus is a Democrat or Republican. My initial thought was, “Good heavens, why are we politicizing St. Nick?” But then I started thinking about the mentality of […]
