Obama the Aggrieved

|

We called him socialist, and we were wrong. We called him many things and we were often wrong. We weren’t paying close enough attention.

Barack Hussein Obama got himself elected president but shows no presidential abilities. He shows no leadership, even in a wrong direction. He follows the lead of Socialist Nancy Pelosi, and so looks a socialist, but he is only following her. He is, fortunately, letting the military run the wars, while appearing to make considered decisions. He is indicisive and so takes forever to decide. For those who support him, he makes it appear he is making a considered decision. Bah. Look at his voting record in the Senate. Abstentions are his stock in trade. When he did vote, his record indicates support – government-mandated support for the less well off. He votes for programs and rules that indicate he is a liberal. But I am not so sure, even though according to the website www.ontheissues.org when Obama was a Senator running for President, his record indicated he is a left-leaning liberal.

Their conclusion is based on a compilation of statements and voting record. He voted to oppose the death penalty, to support abortion rights, to stop global warming, and to require companies to hire more minorities and women. His is the record of a typical left-leaning liberal. He supports government intervention when it suits him; but occasionally it doesn’t. Still, liberal is too kind of a descriptor.

He thinks. Actually I have second thoughts about using that word in the same sentence with Obama. More accurately, he believes some things based on emotions. So think about how emotions are formed. Think about how you came to the beliefs you have about life, work, relationships, nature, taxes, government and things like alcohol and marijuana. Your beliefs come from a combination of things, of life experiences, thought, parental and similar inputs. If you are a libertarian it is because you have come to believe less government is better. If you are a ‘hard core conservative’ (ontheissues definition) you believe in less government interference in economic issues and more on personal social issues.

Again, how you come to these positions is based on your life experiences and how you incorporate them into a personal philosophy. It is this personal philosophy which helps one make daily decisions. It is what helps you make a decision on whether to vote for higher taxes, for a Democrat, Republican or a Libertarian or a Green Party. It is what helps a Senator decide how to vote on the questions placed before him.

Obama’s early life led him to support social programs rectifying perceived wrongs. Social programs in government are those which take from one group of people to give to another, transfer payments in political parlance. One can only wonder if Obama has ever seen one he didn’t like, because he votes for them all. Which led many to call him socialist. His early life showed us his successes, how he handled his time as editor at the Harvard Law Review. We learned of his activities with ACORN and similar groups. We learned of his Chicago associations, and his luck in running for Senator and President. His campaign told us what ‘he’ was going to do for every group who had a complaint about the unfairness of life and their personal situation. He told us he didn’t approve of the way the US is and told us with him we could have HOPE and CHANGE. (Palin describes it as ‘that hopey changey stuff’)

What he was doing was offering solace to those with complaints about life, and they believed. He was offering to use the position of President of the United States to restore those who were perceived distressed or wronged or offended or disturbed or injured or depressed or even just troubled.

The downtrodden, those who are aggrieved in some way or another, saw Obama as their savior, their deliverer, their liberator and emancipator. For the ever and consummately aggrieved, Barack Obama promised to make them well and whole. He promised those things in speeches gorged with empathy, speeches which made the future sound so wonderful, so fantastic, so plausible, and so they believed. Obama would be the savior of the aggrieved. So the masses have given us for president: Obama the Aggrieved.
