Nantambu Drunk On Whine
Mr. Kojo Nantambu, head of the local NAACP chapter, calls for a boycott of Charlotte.
Boycott: To refuse to have dealings with, in order to force acceptance of certain conditions.
Extort: To obtain from a person by intimidation.
Let us be clear: a boycott is legal extortion. Mr. Nantambu recommends extortion because he’s not getting his way. A temper tantrum would be a more descriptive term. But then the NAACP, being an organization whose initial goal has been accomplished, seeks to find a way to remain important. Fortunately this temper tantrum of Nantambu’s will only exacerbate the demise of the NAACP.
As reported elsewhere, the list of black officials who find Nantambu’s recommendation a temper tantrum is extensive. NC Senator Malcolm Graham and Charlotte City Councilman Pat Cannon are on the list. If they felt Nantambu had good cause, they might be joining his call to action. They are not.
Still, one can’t fault Nantambu; he must do something to make himself relevant. So he follows the path of those who came before. But they had reasons for their angst; Nantambu only imagines his. Nantambu will stand with a band of followers who remember the glory days of protest and wish for them to remain forever – when leaders of the black community had no power but the street, no expectancy for their selves, children, or friends. Fortunately those days are past.
But being realistic and reasonable is not the way of some people. Vilma Leake, my favorite local political celebrity to pick on, is a case in point. She is a ridiculous public character. If she doesn’t get her way she blows up in a temper tantrum, and those who should confront her remain quiet. They are afraid she will call them racist, because she has proven she will. She might just say, “Racist, racist, racist!”
What a tired word. What an overused word. What an abused word. Racist. It is often used as a tool of extortion. Black employees, who should be fired for non-performance, threaten to or throw down the ‘racist’ card and are kept on. White employees in a similar situation have no such threat over their employer and so must work or get fired. The NAACP leads the way in this abuse. The federal government, always fighting the last war, often jumps in to use the power of government coercion to abuse those so accused. No evidence needed.
They should all be satisfied. Being black has become more influential to getting or keeping a job than ability. Just the opposite of how it was 50 and more years ago. Now it is time to find the center. It is time for politicians of every stripe to move to the next issue. Certainly the world is not perfect, but the complaints the NAACP makes are of relatively minor importance compared to other problems.
But because it is so far out of touch with reality, I suggest a name change: WHINE – a motley association of African-American politicians who can’t get elected to local or state office and feel sorry for themselves.
But back to reality: I have to go to work and pay taxes to the US government so they can send agents around to investigate the local school system and county government, where I also pay taxes, and each of them can draw handsome salaries and tell each other how it all should be done a different way, while accomplishing nothing.
Now there’s a project for WHINE! Get involved in how government abuses the taxpayers, or those who wish they could get jobs and be taxpayers but can’t because of government malfeasance. But then the leaders of WHINE, much like the NAACP, are about personal attention. It is much easier to cry, “racist, racist, racist” than actually do something positive. Just ask Vilma.
