Panthers/Foxx Kleptocracy‏

|

Mayor Foxx told us Charlotte didn’t have enough money for sidewalks, but he doesn’t mind offering money to Jerry Richardson for stadium renovations. One can only suppose professional football is a basic responsibility of government and sidewalks are a perk. Else why would the Observer report this: “Foxx sent a letter to Panthers owner Jerry Richardson on Tuesday inviting him to “discuss (stadium renovation plans) with the city council.”

He added in the letter: “I cannot unilaterally commit resources but I do feel we have an interest in the long-term presence and success of the Carolina Panthers.”

Let us be clear, it’s not Foxx’s money, but he’s guarding the henhouse. Certainly Curt Walton, the city manager, won’t oppose the idea.

This is what we have come to expect from city and county government: the expenditure of taxpayer’s money for entertainment for the rich, and that is what this is.

A company that spends $14,518,000 on a signing bonus for one employee does not need money from the taxpayers. But Mayor Foxx sent a letter offering just that. So what might we learn?

Charlotte voters have elected an overwhelmingly Democratic city council. They voted for Obama, they voted against the marriage amendment. It is obvious the voters of Charlotte vote for Democrats. What is the perception of Democrats: they are for the people, especially the little people. So the voters indicate, by their vote, they want representation for the ‘people’.

Jerry Richardson worked hard for his wealth. Now he is capable of paying millions per year for numerous employees. Many of them are rich. They, according to the hysterical media, should all be Republicans. (I don’t know what any of them are – don’t care) The media hype is that rich people are Republicans and should pay more taxes.

So why are the Democrats in City Hall, voted into office by supporters who are led to believe Democrats are for the ‘little people’, lining up to line the pockets of the rich with the taxes of the little people?

Can you spell ‘kleptocracy’?

This is the face of politics. The people need jobs, they need economic security, they needs places to live, food to eat and representatives that care about them. When they vote for someone, they vote for someone they believe will have their best interests in mind.

Why then are those who have been elected offering money to millionaires? Aren’t millionaires the people the Democratic President Obama says need to pay more taxes?

The fact is the game of politics is different than what the hysterical press would have you believe. It is about money. It is about control of the purse strings. Saying you’re for the people is something you say to get votes. It is not something you do, except to keep appearances up. There’s no money in taking care of the downtrodden, except by buying their vote. The money’s in taking care of the rich people.

Mayor Foxx is doing what politicians do: talking out of both sides of his mouth. In offering to take care of the millionaires with your tax money, he is paving a road for his political future. So we are reminded of the reality of politics: take from the many to give to the well connected few. He says ‘he’s for the people’. I believe that. He’s for himself and wheover can help him get what he wants for Anthony Foxx. Not very many people, but carefully chosen ones.

President Obama is studious in his attacks on the rich and his support of the ‘people’. I’m surprised he and Mayor Foxx can be in the same political party. Or is something going on we’re not supposed to notice?

Nothing to see here folks, move along, no news here.
