Tea Party Leads Battle Against Ruling Class

Let us thank the Tea Party. Finally, a group of representatives who stand up for the taxpayers and the American Way of Life. What they have done is historical and outstanding. In the face of threats, lies, prognostications of impending financial doom and the world coming to an end, they stood their ground. An apt […]

Employment Considerations

According to those who usually report on the employment reports put out by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, June wasn’t such a great month. Maybe not, but then, maybe so. Consider that local, state, and federal government employment was down 39,000 people while employment overall was up by 18,000. According to the attorneys for […]

Our Acorn Activist In Chief

President Obama, in a typical speech, threatens Social Security recipients with a cutoff of their checks if the Republicans don’t do as he tells them. He wants the debt limit raised high enough that he won’t have to bother with it again until after next year’s election. His wish list is a couple of trillion […]

The Politics Of Crisis

Crisis. Everything’s a crisis anymore. As political leaders in Washington seek a resolution to the restrictions posed by the Debt Limit, we are told it’s a crisis. Where is the crisis? Isn’t global warming a crisis? Isn’t HIV a crisis? We had (have) a subprime crisis. How many crises can we take? Maybe this really […]

Crying Wolf For Racism

A headline in the editorial pages of the uptown paper says: EpiCentre officials are hurt by their own silence. The implication is direct: What has downtown Charlotte done now? Thomas Friedman, one of the partisan pundits who pretends a knowledge of economics, recently argued for more deficit spending to prime the economy. What would he consider the $1.3 […]

Economic Enchanters

As the United States and its state and local governments wander around the edge of a financial abyss, one can only be amused by the some of the economists. Economics is touted as a science yet if it is a science why is there such a diversity of opinion? There is one team of economists […]

ObamaCare and Sex

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as ObamaCare, is the federal government’s latest foray into the medical field. Actually the intrusion is into the field of medical insurance and pharmaceuticals. The field of medicine is only indirectly affected. Generally the purpose seems to be one of allowing or requiring as many people […]

Debt Ceiling Bondage

One has to appreciate the hypocrisy of the Obama White House. They ignore the Constitution and any laws previously established, yet work to have new laws written as if we must follow their laws and not laws written by others. A perfect example is the current debate on the national debt. Written law, long established […]

A Taxing Lesson

Even as we watch other cities and various states (including North Carolina) reduce their budgets, paring the size of government, Mecklenburg County continues its course of taxing the people more in order to pay the county bureaucrats more. There are, of course, reasons for this, none good. The primary reason is that Jennifer Roberts associates […]
