Biz Leaders: Tax Cuts To Help Grow Economy

|

It’s pretty obvious from this account of last weekend’s powwow on job creation what local business leaders think needs to be done to kick start the economy: Reduce government bloat and  bureaucratic red tape that thwarts private industry and reduce taxes to put more revenue into the hands of businesses to help drive the economy back onto a stable track.

The money graphs from the uptown paper of record’s account:

Business leaders spent more than an hour in small groups, mulling ideas they later presented to the crowd.

In response to a question about what the government could be doing to help, Chuck Allen of U.S. Airways said, “We couldn’t get past those tax cuts.” The crowd applauded.

His small group called on public officials at the federal, state and local levels to eliminate corporate income taxes, reduce individual income taxes and reduce the cost of government administration, in the form of salary cuts and furloughs.

Allen also asked the government to fix banking regulations that have crippled lending.

“Government is overreaching to the detriment of businesses,” he said.

So naturally, Gov. Bev Perdue, a Democrat, has responded by growing government, creating yet another layer of bureaucracy  – the state’s first small business commissioner.
