CMPD And Reality TV

|

Let me get this straight: Police Chief Rodney Monroe has steadfastly refused to release the personnel files of a rogue cop accused of committing numerous sexual assaults while on duty, but the chief is more than ready and willing to bare the inner workings of his department’s homicide division on national TV?

That’s the story from WSOC, which reports that CMPD has agreed to take part in A&E’s cop reality show, “The First 48”.

This from Eyewitness News:

CMPD Homicide Capt. Paul Zinkann said the show approached department officials, who ultimately decided participating would be a good thing for them and for the city.

Zinkann said the show would be a good way “to show the community the effects homicide has on families and communities and to highlight the tenacity of the work by detectives that investigate these cases.”

Beginning in a few weeks, crews will tag along with detectives, spending nearly every waking moment with them.

The episodes featuring CMPD likely won’t air for another eight to 12 months. By that time, maybe our city council will grow a spine and hold TV star in the making Chief Monroe accountable for why he let an accused repeat sexual offender on his force continue to cruise city streets, despite numerous warnings that former police officer Marcus Jackson was an obvious and imminent danger to the community.
