From Kitty Box To Dawg Pound
News from over the weekend has Jake Delhomme headed to Cleveland to live out his glory days. Best of luck to Jake; he’s going to need all he can get.
I grew up close enough to the shadows of Cleveland’s old Municipal Stadium to see firsthand how unrelentingly brutal and demanding Browns fans can be. We’re talking about fans who turned savage against star QB Bernie Kosar, after he twice led them to AFC Championship games, coming up two drives short of Super Bowls.
Cleveland has a spiffy, new stadium, but its Dawg Pound fans haven’t changed an iota in temperament or ferocity. Jake delivers the same sub-par performance he did during his waning days in Carolina, and he won’t find any nostalgic love fest from fans willing to forgive because of his gung-ho attitude and aw-shucks smile. More likely, his first lame duck, pick-six pass receives a shower of dog bones and howls for his head on a platter.
