Healthcare Reform Heartburn

|

With President Barack Obama demanding a straight up-or-down vote to ram home a horribly flawed, government-orchestrated healthcare reform package, a few examples floating around the ‘Net about how government has fared with other programs under its control should have folks running for cover and popping heartburn pills by the dozen. To wit:

The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. GovCo has had 234 years to get it right and it is broke. Social Security was established in 1935. They’ve had 74 years to get it right and it is broke. Fannie Mae was chartered by Congress in 1968 as a government-sponsored enterprise; after 42 years it not only is broke, but also helped trigger the near total collapse of the economy.

The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before.

It’s only taken the government 44 years to bankrupt Medicare and Medicaid.

Quite the impressive track record for the folks who want to run our healthcare system.
