Look For The Union Label

|

Possibly right below the badges of Char-Meck police officers and firefighters, if Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has his way.

Reid, facing an uphill re-election bid in a state rife with union power and sway, is pushing federal legislation that would give public safety workers in North Carolina collective bargaining rights when negotiating for pay and benefits.

The legislation, which could be voted on as early as this week, would stomp over state law that bans union organizing and force state, city and county governments to bargain collectively with unions that represent public safety workers – cops, firefighters, Medics, sheriff’s deputies, State Highway patrol officers, to name a few.

Critics of the legislation, which is being vigorously opposed by local and state officials, contend it could end up costing taxpayers millions and jeopardize the efficiency of public safety services. But why would Harry Reid fret over that, if it can buy him a few votes back in Nevada?
