Cocaine And The Sex Drive Of Japanese Quail

|

Just one of the myriad interesting items the federal government is spending your hard-earned money to study: $181,406 to be exact. That’s how much the National Institutes of Health shelled out for a researcher at the University of Kentucky to study how cocaine enhances the sex drive of Japanese quail. Seriously.

And that’s the least of it, according to CNSNews. In other dubious spending sprees, the federal government has doled out:

* $2 million to promote condom use among intravenous drug users in Kazakhstan

* $2.6 million to train Chinese prostitutes to drink responsibly on the job

* $1.4 million to study the “social milieu” of male prostitutes in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi

* $550,000 to conduct “focus groups and in-depth interviews” with long-haul truck drivers, to learn about their sex lives and assess their risk of contracting HIV/AIDS

* $314,000 to study whether increased cases of domestic violence are linked to NFL upset losses.

Your tax dollars hard at work. Wonderful.
