Muslim Moonshot

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden says his agency is on course to change it mission, taking one giant leap to prop up the Obama Administration’s goal of extending olive branches to the Muslim world, supplanting space exploration as NASA’s driving goal.

In a recent interview with al-Jazeera, Bolden declared that President Obama tagged the foremost objective of NASA as reaching out to the Muslim world.

“When I became the NASA administrator – or before I became the NASA administrator – he (Obama) charged me with three things,” Bolden said in the interview. “One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science … and math and engineering.”

In the same interview, Bolden also took a swipe at his own agency’s capabilities, or maybe more appropriately its lack thereof, pronouncing that the United States and NASA were no longer equipped to soar anywhere beyond low-gravity orbit as a single entity.
