County Shelling Out Millions For Illegals

|

Nearly $3 million in July – $2.65 million, to be more precise – according to Department of Social Services Director Mary Wilson, via a memo she provided to county commissioners in response to prompting from Republican Commissioner Bill James.

We’ll have much more on this, but suffice now with the following e-mail blast James sent out today:

9% to 10% of Meck welfare goes to illegals

DSS knows who they are – won’t tell ICE or Sheriff

Raleigh refuses to allow DSS to inform on them

DSS system tracks their identity but won’t rat them out

OK, so here is something you probably don’t know about your government.

Welfare offices in NC take applications from illegals. Because the DSS identity system (called ‘SAVE’-Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlement) verifies both the name and social security number, DSS knows exactly which people that walk into their offices are illegal and which are not.

Over the last year 139 illegals applied for welfare benefits and were denied. According to rules from Raleigh, DSS is prohibited from turning over this information to the Sheriff, ICE or Homeland Security. However 5,635 illegals applied and were given benefits for their Anchor Babies.

But wait, there’s more !

Of a total of 61,074 food stamp cases in Mecklenburg, 5,635 involve an illegal either applying for service or having an illegal in the household receiving the welfare dough.

Of the 1,434 new applications for Food Stamps involving an illegal – the above listed 139 were denied.

While it is illegal to be an illegal in the US and ICE and Homeland Security routinely round up illegalsincluding their Anchor Babies returning them to their country of origin; in NC this information is in government computer systems and could be sent to ICE to round them up.

We could easily require finger-printing at DSS when their ‘SAVE’ computer system flags the individuals as illegal. We don’t. We also don’t call the Sheriff. We don’t call ICE. We don’t call Homeland Security.

An Osama wanna-be could be applying (Anchor Baby in tow) yet no one in ICE or in local law enforcement is made aware of this.

The specific reason why illegals are protected by NC DSS is provided in an answer from our local DSS as follows:

ANSWER: Per NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) policy, individuals who apply for any Medicaid program or service are not subject to any US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reporting requirements and should not be reported to the USCIS under any circumstances by DSS.

For Food Stamps and Work First, NC DHHS policy states that only certain specific evidence of illegal presence in the United States must exist before an applicant/recipient can be reported to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) by a DSS.The only specific evidence that can be considered is evidence provided by the USCIS or the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR), such as a Final Order of Deportation. No other criteria or evidence can or will warrant a referral being made to the USCIS.

According to one of our most long tenure employees (over 20 years) there has been one instance reported regarding illegal activity.  This occurred approximately 10 years ago when a customer presented a copy of their Order of Deportation to a worker.  We were then required to report this information to NCDHHS.

There is no system  or information source that would provide this type of information outside of a customer presenting a letter they may have received.

Below is a summary of info provided by our local DSS office. Kudos’ to Mary Wilson, head of DSS for pulling this together quickly.

Mecklenburg County, NC
Population 913,639
Increase in Food Stamps and Welfare benefits to U.S. children with illegal immigrants parents since July 2009 $311,354
Percent change in number of households U.S. citizen children with illegal immigrant parents  receiving public assistance from January to June of this year -1.2% (Decrease)
Total payments in public assistance to U.S. children with illegal immigrant parents in July 2010 $2,653,016
Total payments in FNS to U.S. children with illegal immigrant parents  in July 2010 $1,950,980
Total payments in Welfare to U.S. children with illegal immigrant parents in July 2010 $153,007

One last point to ponder. Illegals with Anchor Babies get Medicaid (poor people health insurance) from birth to about 1 year. During this time the hospital where the baby was born colelcts info about the illegal as well.  The County and local hospitals likely have detailed records of the name, adderess, SSN, phone and other vital stats for these illegals who have come through the system. None of which is provided to ICE or Homeland Security.

Just imagine how many illegals are on the government dole while you or your loved one is unemployed.

Think about how all government would have to do is just hit ‘print’ on their office computers or e-mail the list to ICE and Homeland Security.

Think how much money the Federal and local governments waste by allowing this to occur; refusing to cooperate with each other.
