Gov. Bev: fuggedaboudit
In a wholly predictable response to her political mentor’s plea of ‘I’m guilty, but not guilty like that” today, Gov. Beverly Perdue is urging folks (like, I don’t know, the GOP majority that just won control of the General Assembly) to leave the past in the past and focus on moving North Carolina forward.
She even managed to work in a shameless holiday angle. From Perdue’s press office, in response to former Gov. Mike Easley’s conviction of certifying a false campaign report:
“Today marks the ending of a difficult period for the people of North Carolina. As we enter the holiday season we must refocus on what’s important to move this state forward in the New Year – creating jobs for our people and educating our children. I look forward to putting this issue behind us.”
Left unsaid by Gov. Bev: And, um, by the way, it’d be better for everybody – especially the children – if we all just agreed to drop the ongoing criminal investigation into my own campaign.
The Perdue campaign, of course, is fresh off a $30,000 fine by the State Board of Elections for failure to report 42 campaign flights – similar to the high-flying scam perpetrated by Easley – and remains under criminal investigation.
I’ve said it before: these people would make the Genovese and Bonanno families blush.
