Lip Service
Sanity comes close, but ultimately falls short, in Johnston County, where school officials are now requiring notes from parents if they don’t want their children to use lip balm, hand sanitizer or sunscreen while at school.
As opposed to school officials’ original plan to outlaw lip balm from campuses unless parents sent notes stating their children were allowed to use said articles of supposed germ-spreading hazard. This from WSOC:
The school district had planned to require parents to send a note if their children were to be allowed to use lip balm. But (Superintendent Ed) Croom said there was confusion about the policy and officials decided it was easier to require notes for those who are not to use the balm.
Wonderful. I guess that stands as progress for the micro-managed bureaucracy that passes for public education these days. Meanwhile, guns, knives, brass knuckles and other assorted implements of mayhem are still working their way onto school campuses. But lip balm? Got that one covered.
