School Brawls, Mailed Threats And More Racist Accusations
Just another page in the ongoing saga of CMS.
Violence erupted yesterday at Garinger High School, where 10 students were arrested for disorderly conduct after a rolling brawl broke out on the school’s campus – again. It’s the fourth time this year that police have been called to the school in response to melees.
Recall that last month a football game at Garinger had to be cut short after a series of fights broke out in the stands, with reports of gunfire outside the stadium; the following week, police were again called to the campus in response to a fight that resulted in four students being arrested.
Not to worry, though, CMS will soon have the ongoing mayhem under control. This from WCNC:
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools law enforcement believes that they know what is sparking the violence and officers say they have a plan to smother it.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and CMS law enforcement are staying busy investigating what they call credible threats made against school board members. After the board of education’s recent vote to close nearly a dozen schools, threatening letters were sent individually to board chairman Eric Davis and member Kaye McGarry, with a separate e-mail laced with threats sent to the entire board.
McGarry, in an interview last night, related that part of the message she received stated that “she’d never live to see the changes” approved by the board come to pass. McGarry said that the CMPD beefed up security patrol around her house and neighborhood after the letter was received, while WBTV reports that at least one other school board member, Rhonda Lennon, has requested extra security through CMS law enforcement.
In other ongoing CMS-centric news, Charlotte NAACP President Kojo Nantambu this week called former mayor Pat McCrory a racist, after McCrory had opined that chants of “no justice, no peace,” which Nantambu had led during several recent school board meetings, could incite violence in the community.
