Obama: A Progressive By Nature
That would be Sen. Rand Paul, in his response to President Obama’s State of the Union address. Some folks might think Paul is too over-the-top unrealistic with his proposal to cut the federal deficit by $500 billion. In one year. Yet at the other end of the spectrum, we have Obama feigning a new fiscal conservatism and people seem willing to buy it whole cloth.
All of Obama’s talk about a spending freeze, delivered last night with straight-faced, somber sincerity, is clouded by the unconvenient reality that he’s not looking to seriously cut a single government program. The One chooses instead to invest in America with more massive government spending, taking us down the fast track to fiscal oblivion. Literally. Of Obama’s myriad investments rolled out last night, one calls for providing 80 percent of Americans access to high-speed rail within 25 years. It’s the way to stay competitive with China, or something.
Obama promised more government spending on everything from “biomedical research, information technology, and especially clean energy technology,” pitched as an investment that will “create countless new jobs for our people.”
That sounds an awful lot like the promise that massive stimulus spending would prevent the unemployment rate from topping 8 percent. And we all know how well that’s turned out: countless jobs, as in there are none to count.
Take it away, Sen. Paul:
