Vilmapocalypse
You might recall last year when Commissioner Vilma Leake proclaimed that Mecklenburg County had its own fire department (it doesn’t) and expressed confusion over why volunteer firefighters are being paid for their volunteer service (they aren’t). Or when Leake let slip that she considered business incentive grants the equivalent of a personal slush fund to help land jobs for her friends and cronies, or how she was staying busy dodging candidate debates. Or maybe when she tagged former President Bush as the root cause of the county’s current financial woes.
With all that fresh in mind, you’ll be glad to know that Leake, a Democrat, was jabbering at last week week’s county board meeting about how she has 10 interns who she has been mentoring, and that she would soon be holding a community forum where she could “share the information and structure of our governance with the city and county” with her constituents.
It’s scary enough that Leake keeps getting re-elected because of outrageously gerrymandered districts; that she’s out there actively indoctrinating impressionable young minds and holding public forums to explain how county government works is downright terrifying.
