Exporting Repeat Violent Offenders

|

The dire impact of Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s revolving courthouse door of alleged criminal justice has crossed state lines. In this case, it’s a multi-repeat offender who skated on a murder charge only to end up accused of another murder in Georgia. WBTV’s Tom Roussey runs down the sordid backstory:

Stacey Dooley of Charlotte is charged with murdering an Atlanta-area armored car driver.  But many angry folks around Charlotte say he never should have been able to do it, because they believe he should have been in jail.

This is not the first time Dooley’s faced a murder charge — in 2006 he was accused of murdering a man on Booker Avenue in West Charlotte.

But he was allowed to plead to a lesser charge — a MUCH lesser charge.

The murder charge in 2006 was dismissed, and in return Dooley had to plead guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon.

Court records show that the 34-year old Dooley has faced 45 charges in Mecklenburg county since 1992.  They include the murder charge that was dismissed, as well as everything from cocaine charges to driving with a revoked license charges.

But Dooley was only ever convicted of six crimes.

Mecklenburg County: Spreading murder and mayhem far and wide.
