Planting Astroturf For A Tax Hike
A government-managed agency in partnership with a boatload of other government directed and subsidized agencies has produced a so-called community consensus that shows most folks wouldn’t mind paying more in taxes if it means – wait for it – more money for more government services. What a shocker.
As forewarned earlier this year, the astroturf laid by the Get Real 2011 initiative, through the Uptown connected Crossroads Charlotte, is prepped and ready to be pushed by the status quo as a call to arms for capturing ever more revenue from the recent property revaluation.
It’s what you all want, you know. At least according to the Get Real spin, which shows people embracing scripted value statements like, “We don’t mind giving more or making sacrifices, but we want more transparency and accountability in return,” and “People that are better able … should be asked to bear a larger share of the burden.”
Fully expect to hear those line echoed, if not repeated verbatim, as Jenny & The Debts gear up for funneling more money from your pockets into county coffers via a tax hike.
Or in the words of Crossroads Charlotte executive director, Tracy Russ, speaking on the results of the Get Real initiative, “It will now be up to our elected officials to listen to the results as they make real decisions in the coming weeks about school budgets and other community needs…”
