Foxx Out Of Hunt For Governor’s Race
After briefly mulling the prospect of a run for governor, Mayor Anthony Foxx says he’s staying put in Charlotte. The announcement from his (choose one) spokesperson/office/secretary/mouthpiece/PRmachine:
“Over the past few days I have given serious consideration to a run for Governor of North Carolina. Given the unusual circumstances and short time, such a run would have required more focus on a statewide campaign than on my young family and many local issues of importance to me and so many Charlotte residents. Therefore, I have decided to forgo a statewide race this election cycle, and will continue my efforts to build a brighter future for our city.”
Mayor Anthony R. Foxx
Translation: not enough time or money to throw together a truly effective statewide campaign, while prepping the Queen City to host the DNC and further solidifying ties to the Obama machine and more lofty aspirations as part of the same.
Meanwhile, Democrats Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton and state Rep. Bill Faison have both already announced they are running to fill Gov Bev’s shoes, while Erskine Bowles is still weighing options. On the GOP side, former Charlotte mayor Pat McCrory officially kicks off his gubernatorial campaign today, after essentially running for the office, making the rubber chicken circuit around the state, lo these many months.
